Value-Based Pricing vs Cost-Based Thinking

Value-Based Pricing vs Cost-Based Thinking

Purpose of This Lesson

To help you escape cost justification traps.

Cost-Based Thinking (The Trap)

Cost-based thinking sounds like:

  • “This includes software, services, tags…”
  • “We invested a lot in development…”
  • “Our costs are justified…”

Customers do not care about your costs.

Value-Based Thinking (The Correct Frame)

Value-based thinking connects price to:

  • Reduced audit findings
  • Reduced asset loss
  • Reduced operational friction
  • Increased confidence

Example:

“This investment removes recurring audit stress and asset uncertainty.”

This shifts the conversation from:

“Why is this expensive?”

to

“What problem does this eliminate?”
